A fitting guide for gymnastics leotards

Many first-time gymnasts will be unsure how leotards are supposed to fit. Generally, they need to be a snug fit with no creases, wrinkles, or snags visible when fitted correctly. The close fit design allows freedom of movement and ensures the clothing does not limit its performance.

Always ensure this close fit when purchasing a leotard as it shouldn't be so tight that it is sitting above the hips. If you find that the leotard you are wearing causes irritation around the arms and legs this means it is probably a bit too tight.

Is it different for a child’s leotard?

When fitting a leotard for a child, it is always a good idea to buy one with some growing room; meaning a small amount of wrinkling down the front length or in the sleeves. Please note, children are generally not used to wearing close-fitting clothing and could say the leotard is too tight.

We would always recommend trying on a leotard first, if possible. They need to be moved around in as much as possible to get a better idea of the fit.
